The legend is alive
The former Formula 1 racing driver Didier Pironi saddled in 1986 on racing boats and scored from the start successes. The Colibri was manufactured in contrast to the then usual aluminum riveted hulls made of epoxy resin and glass fabric and thus more than 3000Kg lighter than its competitors. Revolutionary was also the special underwater ship with step. The Colibri was powered by two Mercruiser engines and two Lamborghini 12 cylinder engines. These benefits ensured that Pironi made several victories until his fatal accident at the Isle of Wight in 1987. After that tragedy, the Colibri stood for many years in a shed in Baie des Canoubiers near Saint Tropez where Ernest found here and decided to bring her to life as a model again. The fully restored Colibri is now in the Museum Manoir de LÀutomobile in Lohèac France.
For this mono raceboat one or two drives or struts can be used. Due to its size, this model is more suitable for the construction as electric boat. For example the SSS4092 engines with 6 S and 47mm propellers or two Scorpion 4035/1600 with 6S per engine and 47-53mm propellers.
Good to know!
The center of gravity of the Colibri is 26-28% from the transom. For a look as close to the original as possible, we recommend the use of driver dolls.
The little difference
In general, all of our hulls are manufactured using the sandwich "wet in wet" process (1 layer of 100er GFK + 1 layer of 160er GFK + 1 layer of 100er GFK). In this way, the upper and lower part connect optimally and, unlike in vacuum process, there is no weak point on the seam edge of the boat.
